She has specialized training in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma. This can range from treating single traumatic events to the more complex histories of adverse childhood experiences, other relational traumas and attachment issues, to psychosis and Dissociative Disorders.
Sian has experience with people of all sexual orientations and many ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Although multidisciplinary, the tools and perspectives she uses in her daily practice include Client-Centered, Dialectical-Behavioural, Cognitive-Behavioural, Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), Narrative, and some Internal Family Systems (IFS) from a trauma-informed and Bowenian Family Systems model.
Sian’s various roles have included delivering collaborative care through the Crisis Team, Community Support Team, Intake Team, the 108 street Community Clinic, University of Alberta Hospital Burn Unit, and General Systems Intensive Care Unit at Alberta Health Services. She also has clinical supervisory experience of both provisional psychologists and interns, professional leadership, and university and corporate educator experience.
Sian feels the most satisfying part of being a psychologist is that she finds the work meaningful. She aims to work with clients to facilitate growth, develop skills and share techniques to ensure counselling is a valuable experience.
