ADHD Assessments

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition and is often associated with several comorbidities. These comorbidities, which include anxiety and depression, autism, and OCD, can mask some of the more obvious symptoms of ADHD. Our psychologists are aware of this and will do everything possible to help you get the answers you’re looking for.

Some common misconceptions of ADHD are that it causes people to be disruptive, that it’s synonymous with being badly-behaved, or that it only occurs in boys/men. It is important to know the facts. ADHD impacts all genders. Although ADHD can lead to some disruptive behaviour and difficulty focusing, it is not a reflection of character and does not mean that a child is bad or being disruptive intentionally. Furthermore, some people with ADHD don’t struggle with disruptive symptoms at all. Lesser-known symptoms of ADHD, such as inattentiveness, poor executive function, and rejection sensitivity are often overlooked. Often these symptoms are present in females, though they can present among any gender. In a lot of these cases, ADHD often goes undiagnosed until much later on in life.

Our team is very knowledgeable about the subtleties of ADHD and can help identify whether this is an appropriate diagnosis for you. Although ADHD is a lifelong condition, it can be effectively managed with the right both therapy and medication. Our assessment reports will include comprehensive recommendations for different options to manage ADHD.

A common perception of ADHD is that it causes people to be disruptive and energetic, or that it’s synonymous with badly-behaved young boys in school settings. Although this can be true, girls who often have lesser-known symptoms, such as inattentiveness, poor executive function or even rejection sensitivity can also have ADHD. In a lot of cases, it often goes undiagnosed until much later on in life.

We’re very knowledgeable on the subtleties of ADHD, and that’s why our trained psychologists are here to give you the support you need. Although ADHD is a lifelong condition, it can be effectively managed with the right medication. Studies show that up to 80% of people who take medication for ADHD, benefit from it.

Our psychologists will take the time to sit and listen to you about your life, asking questions that help uncover potential symptoms in a friendly and welcoming setting. Whether you’re getting diagnosed as an adult, or seeking a diagnosis for your child, we are confident that we have the experience and knowledge needed to get the answers you’re looking for.

We know that seeking an assessment can be anxiety-provoking, especially if you have been brushed off in the past when trying to speak to someone about them. That’s why we pride ourselves on guiding you through the process, so you can feel confident, secure and comfortable, every step of the way.

An ADHD assessment is the best way to check for ADHD in those who have frequent symptoms of hyperactivity, inattention or impulsivity.

Anyone can go for an ADHD assessment, from children to teenagers and even adults. We have experience treating people of every age range.

We will talk with you about your symptoms, as well as gathering feedback from your partner, parent or teacher, depending on your age. We will work to eliminate other conditions while pinpointing whether or not your symptoms are caused by ADHD. If they are, we can then proceed with treatment.

For children getting assessed, as a general rule, you can expect two hours to assess intellectual ability, two hours to assess academic schools and a one-hour parent meeting. We will also gather school data, and generate a score to show you where on the spectrum your child is.

We can give you a diagnosis as soon as we have gathered the appropriate data. This can take anywhere from a few days, to a few weeks, depending on your symptoms.

ADHD assessments help you to gain clarity over your symptoms and the things you struggle with. They also help to teach you a series of coping mechanisms, so you can learn how to adjust to life with your new diagnosis. Medication can also help lessen the symptoms of inattentiveness, and hyperactivity.

We’re here to take the journey with you, and we’re only ever a call away.
